Hilary Duff‘s daughter has said what we’ve all been thinking.
In an interview with Vanity Fair, the “Mature” singer was sharing her thoughts on her movies including ‘The Lizzie McGuire Movie‘ and ‘A Cinderella Story.’ When it came time to chat about the 2004 film, starring Chad Michael Murray, Duff shared that one of her daughters called out a scene in the movie that has become notoriously questionable among fans.
In the film, Duff’s character, Sam, an unpopular girl in high school is secretly texting with the very popular Austin Ames, played Murray. At their school’s Halloween dance, the actress dons a Cinderella-esque gown and an embellished eye mask. The fact that Ames doesn’t recognize her when the two meet in person, has drawn criticism from fans.
“My four year old has watched this movie and has also picked up on, ‘How could he not know it’s you in that mask?’” she shared in her best impression of her little one. “I was like, ‘It’s the age-old question honey,’ and she’s like, ‘But it’s you, you’re right there, I don’t understand, how does he not know.”
And while tons of fans chimed in the comments about how much they loved the film, others couldn’t help but agree with Duff’s daughter.
“Her 4-year-old daughter has a point,” one fan said.
“Even a 4-year-old recognizes Sam, but Austin can’t,” another commented. “Guess Hilary’s little girl sees through the facade easier than the guys do.”
“Maybe its because he was looking but he wasn’t really seeing,” said a third, cleverly quoting the film.
For her part, Duff said that she considered the script to be “funny” when she first read it and loved the fact that it was a “modern, kind of normal” version of ‘Cinderella.’
In addition to Murray, she also gushed about the cast.
“Regina King was cast which obviously was super exciting, she’s so amazing and Jennifer Coolidge,” she said. “Obviously Chad Michael Murray, and everyone had a crush on him, and then he went off to do freakin’ One Tree Hill, and was still hot, I was like, ‘I did a movie with him.’”
