Here is a list of holiday-themed concerts and events taking place in December:
Thursday: Holiday Bell Choir. The event will be at 6 p.m. at the Penn Hills Library, 1037 Stotler Road. There is no cost to attend, but registration is required by calling 412-775-4700 or emailing [email protected].
Saturday: Jingle & Mingle with Santa at Darner & Daisies Boutique, 200 Jefferson Road in Penn Hills, from noon-6 p.m. The Penn Hills High School Choir will perform at 2:45 p.m. and 3:45 p.m., and the East End Kids Choir will perform at 5 p.m. The afternoon will include children’s crafts and food vendors.
Dec. 6 and 7: Delmont Christmas Pilgrimage. This is a 30-minute walk through the Nativity story at Shields Farm. It will take place 5-9 p.m. on Dec. 6 and 5-8 p.m. on Dec. 7. The “Junior Pilgrimage,” for children, will be held 3-5 p.m. on Dec. 7. Shuttles will run to the pilgrimage from local churches, which will also host holiday-themed events during the pilgrimage. Dec. 7: Westmoreland Choral Society Concert. The concert will be at 3 p.m. at First Presbyterian Church, 300 S. Main St., Greensburg. The society will be joined by Voices of Westmoreland, a group of students in grades 4-7 from across the county. The cost is $15 at the door.
Dec. 8: Symphony East: “Sounds of Joy: Jingle Bell Bash.” Symphony East will host performer Donna Groom at this holiday program. It will begin with an 11 a.m. holiday basket raffle and prize drawing, followed by a buffet luncheon at the Lamplighter in Salem. The performance will begin at 1 p.m. Groom is a vocalist and cruise ship entertainer. The cost is $40 per person for the buffet and show. Reservations for the luncheon are due by Dec. 4. Reservations are not required for the musical program. Show-only tickets are $15. For more information, call 724-327-4864.
Dec. 10: Penn-Trafford Community Band Christmas Concert. The concert will be at 3 p.m. at the Community Methodist Church, 3487 Route 130 in Irwin. There is no cost to attend. For more information, call 724-309-2000.
Dec. 12: Scottdale Concert Band Performance. The concert will be at 7 p.m. at First Presbyterian Church, 300 S. Main St., Greensburg. There is no cost to attend but donations will be accepted.
Dec. 13: East End Kids Annual Pancake Breakfast. East End Kids, a nonprofit professional teen song and dance ensemble, will hold a pancake breakfast at Mother of Sorrows School, 3264 Evergreen Drive, Monroeville. Three seating times are available: 8:30 a.m., 10:15 a.m. and noon. The breakfast includes pancakes, scrambled eggs, potatoes, hot chocolate, coffee, hot tea and lemonade. Each seating features a performance of “Sparkle Jolly Christmas,” a traveling craft station, a basket raffle, a 50-50 drawing and a visit with Santa and Mrs. Claus, complete with a free cookie and photos. The cost is $15 for ages 11 and older, $10 for ages 2 to 10; children 2 and younger are free.
Dec. 13: Kiski Valley Community Band Christmas Concert. The concert is at 7:30 p.m. at Christ Lutheran Church, 5330 Logans Ferry Road in Murrysville. Donations will be accepted to support the Kiski Valley Food Bank and Plum Food Pantry.
Dec. 13 and 14: Monticello Lights, where residents of Delmont’s Monticello Drive invite the public to drive through the neighborhood, check out their holiday decorating competition
and donate to vote for their favorties. All proceeds will be split between the Delmont Police Department K-9 unit and WTAE’s Project Bundle-Up. The event will be held 6 to 9 p.m. both nights.
Dec. 14: Jeannette Community Band’s 37th Annual Christmas Concert. The concert will be at 7 p.m. at the Jeannette American Legion, 109 S. Fifth St. in Jeannette. There is no cost to attend.
Dec. 14: Christmas Party at Hebron Church. The free party will be held 3:30 to 5 p.m. at Hebron Church, 10460 Frankstown Road in Penn Hills, with crafts, cookies, live music, and more.
Dec. 14: Pan-Orthodox Choir of Greater Pittsburgh Concert. The choir will join other local Orthodox choirs at 4 p.m. for “Sing Praises to Our God, Sing Praises,” their annual Christmas concert. It will be at St. Nicholas Serbian Orthodox Church, 2110 Haymaker Road in Monroeville. A free will offering will benefit various Orthodox charities. There will be fellowship following the concert.
Dec. 14: West Newton Community Band Christmas Performance. The band will perform at 3 p.m. at the West Newton Gymnasium, 113 S. Fifth St. There will be Chinese auction baskets and a reception to follow. Bleacher seating will be available. Concert-goers can bring their own folding chair.
Dec. 15: “Light Up the Night” Hanukkah Event. This free, all-ages Hanukkah celebration will be held at 5 p.m. in Monroeville Community Park. The event will include a customary Chocolate Gelt Drop, where chocolate coins are dropped from a height for children to collect. There also will be an outdoor carnival, crafts, doughnuts and latkes, prizes and light-up gifts, as well as a special performance by the Gateway Chorus.
Dec. 28: Hillcrest United Presbyterian Church Christmas Cantata. The church will hold its annual musical, “Sing and Shout for Joy,” at 11 a.m. at the church, 1622 James St., Monroeville. The musical is based on a portion of Psalm 98 and includes favorite Christmas carols, popular praise choruses, as well as some new songs. This event is open to the public, and all ages are welcome.
