HBO has finally given fans an idea of when House of the Dragon will return. The third season of the Game of Thrones prequel is now expected to premiere in early summer 2026, most likely in June.
HBO and Max boss Casey Bloys recently explained that the new season would arrive “just outside” the 2026 Emmy eligibility period, which ends on May 31. That means the show won’t qualify for next year’s awards and will instead debut shortly after.
The long wait continues the show’s pattern of extended gaps between seasons. Season 1 launched in 2022, and Season 2 followed two years later in 2024. Now, fans face another two-year break before the third chapter lands.
