One of Hollywood’s most iconic theaters, the Cinerama Dome at the former ArcLight Hollywood complex, could be making a comeback.
Deadline reported Wednesday that sources told the entertainment news outlet that Sony Pictures Entertainment is in talks with the Robertson Property Group on a lease agreement to reopen the historic venue.
“This is really, really, really big movie news for movie-loving Angelenos,” Scott “Movie” Mantz said on the KTLA Morning News on Wednesday. “The Dome, the ArcLight Hollywood, was the center of the moviegoing universe for at least two decades.”

The historic theater closed during the COVID-19 pandemic in 2020. In 2021, Pacific Theatres announced that the ArcLight and Pacific theater locations would remain permanently closed, even as other movie theaters began reopening.
“When that closed and never reopened, it was a big void,” Mantz said.
According to Deadline’s sources, Sony-owned Alamo Drafthouse could play a role in operating the Cinerama Dome. However, details of any lease agreement and a potential reopening date are still being worked out.
“Now, there have been false starts with all this, but it sounds like it could actually be happening,” Mantz said.
