The relationship between Hugh Jackman and Sutton Foster has reportedly been going well since they went public with their romance in early 2025. The pair, who met decades ago, struck up a romance after the two separated from their respective partners. But are they a good match? Does this new romance have any chance to really last?
According to Rob Shuter, there might already be cracks in the relationship. The Hollywood insider is reporting that Foster is growing frustrated with the emotional demands of the relationship.

“Hugh wants a mommy, not a girlfriend,” one insider said, “He needs constant validation, nonstop reassurance, and someone shielding him from conflict while he keeps playing the golden boy.”
This is reportedly the role Jackman’s ex, Deborra-Lee Furness, played during their 27-year marriage. But Foster isn’t exactly eager to do the same. “Sutton is ambitious, independent, and emotionally intelligent,” another source explained. “She didn’t sign up to become Hugh’s full-time emotional support system. The deeper this relationship gets, the more she feels responsible for managing his feelings, his image, and the chaos surrounding him.”
Reportedly, the two have also been rocked by the reception they’ve gotten from the public and others in Hollywood after Furness made her feelings post-split clear.
“Hugh desperately needs everyone to love him,” one source said. “He avoids uncomfortable situations at all costs and expects Sutton to absorb the emotional fallout so he can remain the nice guy.”
“Sutton thought she was getting a partner,” another insider added. “What she’s discovering is a man who still needs parenting.”
This all comes after Jackman was said to be blaming his ex-wife, Deborra-Lee Furness, for the frosty reception he’s getting in Hollywood.
“Hugh’s becoming increasingly angry over the feeling that more and more people in Hollywood are quietly turning against him,” a source told Globe in May 2026. “He blames Deb for it 100% and says there’s been a steady drip of poison behind the scenes from her and her camp.”
The actor is also reportedly convinced that friends like Naomi Watts, Russell Crowe, and Nicole Kidman are “ditching him for Deb.” And he’s particularly upset about what this means for Foster, whose reputation is reportedly being affected.
“He’s very protective of Sutton and says it’s incredibly unfair that she’s being frozen out and judged by people who used to happily socialize with her,” an insider told Globe. “He says things have spiraled way beyond a normal breakup now and turned into a coordinated effort to isolate them socially. He’s furious and says he’s no longer prepared to just sit back quietly and take it.”
Furness and Jackman announced their separation in September 2023 and finalized their divorce in June 2025. “We have been blessed to share almost 3 decades together as husband and wife in a wonderful, loving marriage. Our journey now is shifting and we have decided to separate to pursue our individual growth,” they said in a statement at the time, per People.
