HURRICANE, W.Va. (WCHS) — Main Street in Hurricane will be the newest location for a live entertainment venue, sparking excitement from business owners on Main Street like owner of Bear Wood Company Matt Snyder.

“I think it’s great,” Snyder said. “Main Street’s got all the charm of the world down here. They were trying to find another solution for that building and that’s creative. I think it’s going to be great for Main Street.”

The old Hurricane Fire Department building on Main Street is now being converted into a music venue. Snyder said he hopes to see the crowds it draws come into his shop.

“If they’re going to have events over there, I’m hoping that Bear Wood will benefit from that and people might visit us,” Snyder said. “People who may have not walked in the door here at Bear Wood before are going to do that. And maybe they’ll pick up a piece of reclaimed wood for their home. It’s a win-win.”

Hurricane Mayor Scott Edwards said the city had been looking for solutions for the old building, and the idea of a music venue was the perfect choice.

“The stage will be huge,” Edwards said. “It’s gonna be covered with nice heaters and all that inside so you’ll be able to go inside if it starts to get cool or just go inside and sit down, but you’ll also be able to listen and watch from the outside as well.

“We’ll have some areas blocked off outside that won’t be part of the parking lot and you can you can hang out outside and hit a food truck.”

Edwards said come next spring the new venue will be up and running.

“I know what’s gonna happen, winter will slow us down and we’ll have it up and ready easily by spring time,” Edwards said. “When it starts to warm up on the way, mark that March-April timeframe. I’ll be ready to have some have some entertainment live on Main Street.”
