Scott Foley “hadn’t read the script” before returning to the “Scream” franchise for “Scream 7.”
“I don’t know the story, they just asked me to show up for a day. I’m so excited to see the film,” Foley, 53, exclusively told The Post.
The “Scandal,” actor, who was talking to The Post to promote his new series “It’s Not Like That” (for The Wonder Project on Prime Video), said that he had the “best time” returning to the world of “Scream.”
The actor originally played Roman Bridger in 2000’s “Scream 3,” who was ultimately unmasked as the murderer — and killed.
It’s unclear how a dead character can be in “Scream 7” since the “Scandal” alum explained that he doesn’t “know the story.”
“My time on set was brief, but I got to walk through Sydney’s old house, and I saw Neve [Campbell] and David [Arquette]. It was wonderful to be back,” Foley said.
First premiering with “Scream” in 1996, the horror franchise follows Sydney (Campbell) and her friends like Dewey (Arquette) as they deal with the “Ghostface” killer, a villain who dresses up in a scream mask and slashes people. Across the various films, the killer has been a different person behind the mask.
Mathew Lillard and Skeet Ulrich played Stu and Billy, the culprits in the original “Scream,” and Foley played the culprit in “Scream 3.”
Lillard is also returning, despite his character Stu also seemingly dying in “Scream.”
“I’m nervous, because at this point in my life, the only thing I can do is sort of ruin how people consider Stu,” the “Scooby Doo” actor told People in Sept. 2025. “[Especially] if I come back and I suck or I was lame.”
He didn’t explain how Stu could return after apparently dying, but said, “I haven’t seen the movie yet. I don’t know if it works, but it’s a risk. And it’s a risk that I was excited to take.”
The “Scream” franchise has seen upheaval, as “Scream 7” got retooled after original stars Melissa Barrera and Jenna Ortega exited.
Barerra, 35, was fired in Nov. 2023 after a social media post about the Israel Hamas war.
Ortega, 23, said in an April interview with The Cut that she left shortly after because, “The Melissa stuff was happening, and it was all kind of falling apart. If ‘Scream VII’ wasn’t going to be with that team of directors and those people I fell in love with, then it didn’t seem like the right move for me in my career at the time.”
Ulrich told EW in December that he is not returning, but would have returned if Barrera and Ortega had stayed in the movie, as Barrera’s character was his daughter.
“I’ve been vocal about that. I’m not. When we talked about coming back for 5, it was a three-picture arc for Billy Loomis to slowly turn his daughter into the killer. Obviously, those things didn’t pan out, given certain things that happened. But, no, I know nothing about the seventh.”
Kevin Williamson, who wrote the screenplay for the original “Scream,” is returning to direct “Scream 7.”
“Oh, it’s been awesome [to return]. I’ve always been on the fringes of the last few ‘Scream’ movies, as sort of the granddaddy of the franchise,” Williamson told The Post.
When asked what he can share about Lillard’s role in “Scream 7,” Williamson quipped, “Nothing. Not one word.”
“But I will say, I love Matthew. And it was such a pleasure to call him up,” he added. “They let me be the one to call and ask them back to the franchise. And that was a really nice phone call.”
Regarding the behind the scenes upheaval with Barrera and Ortega, he said, “Watching that all go down, and I’m not even sure what happened. I can’t really speak to it, because I wasn’t a part of it.”
“Scream 7” hits theaters Feb. 27.
