A new documentary about the life and career of beloved actor John Candy is now streaming.

“John Candy: I Like Me,” which had its premiere at the 2025 Toronto International Film Festival, was released on Prime Video for all subscribers today, Oct. 10.

Candy was a Canadian actor and comedian who broke through as part of the Toronto branch of The Second City and SCTV, which he starred in alongside an ensemble cast that included Eugene Levy, Catherine O’Hara, and Martin Short. He went on to star in films like “Stripes,” “Spaceballs,” “Uncle Buck,” and “Planes, Trains, and Automobiles,” among countless other memorable credits.

The actor’s life was cut tragically short when he died from a heart attack in 1994 at the age of 43.

“John Candy: I Like Me” was directed by Colin Hanks and executive-produced by Ryan Reynolds. The documentary shares Candy’s life story through those who knew him best, including Candy’s wife and children. Levy, O’Hara, Short, Dan Aykroyd, Mel Brooks, Macaulay Culkin, Tom Hanks, Steve Martin, Bill Murray, Conan O’Brien, Dave Thomas, and Robin Duke appear in the doc as well.
