Canadian actor Rick Moranis is making a return to acting.
The “Spaceballs” actor is returning to the big screen for its sequel, “Spaceballs 2,″ marking his first film appearance since 2006.
Moranis will reprise his role as Dark Helmet.
Amazon MGM confirmed Moranis’ involvement in the sequel in a newly released image of the film’s first table read.
Mel Brooks, Bill Pullman, Daphne Zuniga and George Wyner will reprise their roles in the sequel. Moranis will also be joined by franchise newcomers Josh Gad, Keke Palmer, Lewis Pullman and Anthony Carrigan, according to Amazon.
The film is scheduled to be released in 2027, 40 years after the release of the original in 1987.
Moranis had taken a hiatus from Hollywood after starring in many iconic ‘80s movies, including “Ghostbusters,” “Honey, I Shrunk the Kids,” “Little Shop of Horrors” and “Parenthood.”
“I pulled out of making movies in about ’96 or ’97,” he told USA Today in 2005. “I’m a single parent, and I just found that it was too difficult to manage raising my kids and doing the traveling involved in making movies. So I took a little bit of a break. And the little bit of a break turned into a longer break, and then I found that I really didn’t miss it.”
