KANSAS CITY, Kan. — Fans of art and 1990s-themed movie theaters will soon get to experience a new attraction opening in the Kansas City area this fall.

It’s called Atlas9, and it all takes place inside a 46,000-square-foot fictitious movie theater complex. This “immersive art destination” is set to open to the public Sept. 25 in Kansas City, Kansas.

Visitors are invited to explore “forgotten films” of the 90s that have come to life.

Atlas9 features several installations, performers, an arcade, pizza parlor, concessions stand, jazz club and speakeasy, as well as a 240-seat auditorium.

The art experience was developed by Dimensional Innovations in partnership with Homefield, and is made possible with radio frequency identification technology, live performances by Quixotic and “multi-sensory storytelling,” according to a news release.

“Tech wearables,” its website says, “will allow guests to interact with the environment in unique and unexpected ways.”

Atlas9 is located off State Avenue at 1100 N. 98th St. in Kansas City, Kansas. After the grand opening on Sept. 25, it will be open Tuesdays through Thursdays from 2 p.m. to 10 p.m.; Fridays through Saturdays from noon to 11 p.m.; and Sundays from noon to 8 p.m.

Tickets are available on the Atlas9 website and cost $40 per adult and $30 per child, ages 3 to 12. Children ages 2 and under can get in free.

For residents of Wyandotte County, tickets are $35 per adult and $25 per child. Special rates are also being offered for teachers, nurses, EMTs, firefighters, police officers, active military members and veterans.
