Following ABC pulling Jimmy Kimmel’s show from the air indefinitely on Sept. 17, there’s talk of boycotting ABC’s parrent company: Disney and Hulu.
Social media users began posting pictures of their cancellation receipts under the hashtags #CancelDisney and #CancelDisneyPlus to voice their outrage over “Jimmy Kimmel Live” being suspended following on-air comments by the host about Charlie Kirk’s death.
“Cancel your Disney and ABC subscription for what they did to Jimmy Kimmel. Let them know how pissed off you are!!!!” wrote one user on X on Sept. 17.
Here’s why people are calling for a boycott of Disney and Hulu.
What did Jimmy Kimmel say about Charlie Kirk?
Kimmel’s comments about Tyler Robinson, the man charged with killing Charlie Kirk, came during his opening monologue on Sept. 15.
“We hit some new lows over the weekend with the MAGA gang desperately trying to characterize this kid who murdered Charlie Kirk as anything other than one of them, and doing everything they can to score political points from it,” Kimmel said.
Conservatives took issue with Kimmel’s implication that Robinson was MAGA-affiliated. Authorities have not confirmed a motive for the shooting.

In an interview on a conservative podcast, FCC chairman Brandon Carr called Kimmel’s remarks “the sickest conduct possible.”
Nexstar Media, one of ABC’s largest affiliate groups, announced on Sept. 17 that it would not air episodes of Kimmel’s show. Shortly after this decision, ABC pulled it from air, and said it will be replaced with reruns of “Celebrity Family Feud” on Thursday.
Why are people calling for a boycott of Disney?
People calling for the boycott are upset with what they see as ABC and, by extension, parent company Disney silencing criticism of President Donald Trump and his administration at the expense of free speech.
Within New England, many politicians, particularly from Massachusetts, have spoken out against ABC’s decision, calling it censorship and authoritarianism.
Massachusetts Rep. Jim McGovern told the network to “grow a pair.”
“If the media continues to cower to Trump, this censorship will only get worse,” he said in a Sept. 17 post on X.
Why are people canceling Hulu?
Hulu is owned by Disney, the parent company of ABC. People are also calling for a boycott of Hulu under the hashtag #CancelHulu.
