Writer Ken Marino has revealed how Jennifer Aniston instantly agreed to a risqué cameo in his new comedy. The actor joined a star-studded lineup playing heightened versions of themselves in Gail Daughtry and the Celebrity Sex Pass.

Marino ended up casting Jennifer Aniston for Gail Daughtry and the Celebrity Sex Pass within moments of asking. Speaking at the movie’s Los Angeles premiere, the director told People he braced for a polite decline. But Aniston did the opposite. “We were expecting she’s busy, she’s doing something, but she’s so cool that she was like, ‘Yeah, when do you want to do it?’” he said.
The comedy casts Zoey Deutch as a Midwestern bride-to-be who goes to Hollywood to seduce Jon Hamm before her wedding. Hamm and John Slattery play exaggerated versions of themselves. Marino, who co-wrote the script with David Wain, leaned on three decades of industry relationships to fill out the cast. Calling Aniston followed the same easy rhythm he used with Hamm and Slattery.
Even so, this wasn’t their first spontaneous collaboration. Jennifer Aniston previously appeared in Marino’s parody series Burning Love, giving a performance he still praises. “She came and did one day on that and it was so funny and wonderful, and such a trooper and a team player,” he recalled. “And she’s so good.”
Moreover, Marino rejected elaborate casting strategies for Gail Daughtry and the Celebrity Sex Pass. “We didn’t have time to take too many big swings,” he explained. The team simply targeted people they admired and trusted. Every call resulted in a yes. Alongside Aniston, the film features Joe Lo Truglio, Miles Gutierrez-Riley, Ben Wang, and Sabrina Impacciatore. Marino himself plays an ex-People photographer hunting Hamm across Los Angeles.
The director credits shared history for the film’s effortless cameo assembly. Working in entertainment for nearly four decades builds a broad network of willing collaborators, he noted. Fans can catch the cameo on the big screens as Gail Daughtry and the Celebrity Sex Pass has finally been released.
