Prince Harry’s attempts to mend ties with his royal family members continue.
The Duke of Sussex has reportedly recently agreed to share his and wife Duchess Meghan’s official travel and work schedule with King Charles III and brother Prince William as a kind of olive branch. This is to ensure that the Sussexes’s events don’t clash with the royal family’s and stir up claims that the couple is trying to steal the spotlight, the Daily Mail reported.
A source told the outlet that the Sussex household has offered to “draw up a grid” of their activities and share them with Buckingham Palace.
Harry’s new peace offering comes weeks after he and his father took a major step in repairing their relationship. According to reports, top aides for each of the respective royals met on July 9 in London, where there was discussion about Harry and Charles’s work, as well as how they might be able to reunite moving forward. “It was a good first step,” an insider told People. “It is always better to be talking. There’s optimism that it can be taken forward.”
As Harper’s Bazaar has previously reported, Harry has been mostly estranged from dad Charles and brother William since he and Meghan stepped away from their roles as senior members of the royal family in 2020 and moved to California.
In the years since, Harry has only crossed paths with the senior royals on special occasions, including Queen Elizabeth II’s funeral in 2022 and King Charles’s coronation in 2023. But the rift only grew when Harry published his tell-all memoir, Spare, in 2023, which exposed some shocking royal family secrets.
Then, in February of last year, when the king was diagnosed with cancer, Harry flew to London to see him. The prince made other trips to the United Kingdom in the following months, but he missed his father each time. In May, Charles was reportedly too busy to see him, and then when Harry returned to London in September, Charles and Queen Camilla were on a short trip to Scotland.
This May, Harry told the BBC that the king “won’t speak to me because of this security stuff”—referring to his legal battle about getting a security detail when in the U.K.—and added that he does “not know how much longer my father has.”
Harry added that he “would love a reconciliation” with his royal family members and has “forgiven” them. “There have been so many disagreements between myself and some of my family,” he said. “There’s no point continuing to fight anymore. Life is precious.”
