“Hustlers” was a critical and commercial success when it came out in 2019. So that begs the question are we ever getting a sequel?
Don’t hold your breath, according to the film’s lead, Constance Wu. “Well, it might be different getting up on that pole now that I’ve had two kids, let me tell you that,” she joked to PauseRewind’s Sabra Satz-Kojis at the American Ballet Theatre’s spring gala.
“There’s not been any talk of it,” she continued. “But I loved working with everybody on that.”
“I wouldn’t say no,” she added.
While it’s disappointing to hear that Jennifer Lopez hasn’t been blowing up any group chats with ideas for the dancers from Moves, it does make sense. After all, the film, which also starred Keke Palmer, Lili Reinhart, Julia Stiles, Lizzo, and Cardi B, was based on the true story of a group of New York City exotic dancers who began drugging wealthy men and stealing their money after the 2008 financial crisis. Who knows what a sequel for such a unique film would even look like?
Regardless, it’s nice to know Wu would return for a sequel if given the chance.
When it comes to her favorite dance movie, though, Wu wouldn’t say “Hustlers.” “I mean, I love ‘Dirty Dancing,’” she revealed. “It’s a classic. I even love ‘Dirty Dancing 2: Havana Nights.’ I even love that one. Yeah, that’s good.”
Sounds like Wu is a true “Dirty Dancing” fan!
