Wednesday Addams has successfully completed another year at Nevermore Academy, but her time at school didn’t end without some hitches.

Season two was a wild ride from start to finish, from secret programs conspiring in the basement of a psychiatric facility to a brain-eating zombie returning to his corporeal form as a mad scientist. Wednesday braced every new mystery with her signature deadpan grit and determination, and it certainly helped that she had her friends—from her werewolf roommate Enid to the invisible stalker Agnes—by her side.

By the season finale, Wednesday zoomed away from school strapped into Uncle Fester’s sidecar, an entirely new landscape of unsolved problems laid out before her. While the events of the finale brought some answers to some of this season’s biggest mysteries, it also brought on a host of more questions. Can she find Enid and restore her to her human form? Why is Aunt Ophelia hiding away in the basement of the Frump family estate? And what more secrets does the Addams family have up their sleeves?

Ahead, we break down the four biggest takeaways from Wednesday season 2.

More Addams family secrets are unveiled.

Season two zeroes in on yet another scandal that Morticia and Gomez thought they had long buried in the past—literally. During their time as Nevermore students, Gomez was best friends and roommates with Isaac Night, a mad scientist teen with a plan to remove the Hyde powers of his sister and the future mother of Tyler Galpin, Francoise. Isaac asked Gomez to assist him in the plan by using his electrokinesis to power the machine. However, Isaac intended to sacrifice Gomez’s life in order to save his sister. Morticia arrived at his laboratory just in time, cutting off Isaac’s hand and damaging the machine, which resulted in a power blowout that ultimately killed Isaac and robbed Gomez of his outcast powers permanently. Morticia and Gomez decided to cover up the death by burying Isaac’s body at the foot of the Skull Tree, in the very same grave that Isaac had originally dug for Gomez. They also adopted Isaac’s cut-off hand, which was animated with life by the electrical explosion, and renamed him Thing, an anagram for Isaac’s last name.

The new Nevermore Academy principal will nevermore set foot upon campus. The successor to Principal Larissa Weems turned out to be a conman scheming to use his new gig to swindle alumni and families of their money. Not only is Barry a conman, but he also happens to be the true leader of Morning Song, the cult that Bianca Barclay has been trying to escape for years. In order to weaponize Bianca’s siren powers, Barry kidnapped her mother, Gabrielle, on the condition that Bianca persuades Grandmama Hester Frump to donate her family’s entire fortune to Nevermore. Barry’s facade came to a crashing halt at the gala, where Bianca siren called him into revealing his true intentions onstage. In one last ditch attempt to save himself, Barry took Bianca hostage, threatening to fire up his pyrokinetic powers against her. Ajax saved the day by unleashing his Gorgon hair, which turned Barry to stone. With Bianca free from his grip, a grand chandelier crashed onto Barry’s frozen figure, smashing his body into tiny stoned pieces.

One of season two’s major storylines focuses on Wednesday’s roommate Enid and her struggling to adjust to her newfound werewolf form. One night, while practicing her dance routine for the Nevermore fundraising gala, Enid loses control and “wolfs out”—breaking out of the rehearsal studio and crashing through the windows to head into the woods. Professor Isadora Capri not only witnesses this interaction but recognizes it; Enid is an alpha werewolf, meaning she isn’t meant to stay within a pack and is doomed to be a lone wolf for life if she can’t control her temper. Even worse, alpha werewolves are specifically hunted by other werewolves in order to keep their canine societal chain balanced. In this season’s finale, when Wednesday is buried and left for dead by mad scientist/zombie Isaac Night, the only way Enid and Agnes (Wednesday’s lovable stalker of sorts) can save her is by wolfing out so she has optimal strength to dig up the grave. When Wednesday is ultimately rescued and recognizes Enid in her wolf form, she sees exactly how much her roommate sacrificed to save her.

Who Is Aunt Ophelia?

There’s a looming presence hanging over Jericho in the world of Wednesday—and her name is Ophelia. Throughout season two’s eight episodes, Morticia continuously tells Wednesday how much she reminds her of her estranged—and missing—sister, Ophelia. When Wednesday’s bloody black tear premonitions become more frequent, Morticia worries that Wednesday may suffer the same fate as her sister who we later learn was sent away to a mental institution due to her “condition”. By the episode’s end however, viewers learn that Ophelia is still around but not exactly in a facility. Instead, she lives in a dark cell in the basement of Wednesday’s Grandmama’s home, who opens the door to find her daughter writing in an ominous scrawl, “Wednesday Must Die”. Talk about a cliffhanger.
