I’m A Celebrity… South Africa is almost over with the live finale set to air at the end of the week.
I’m A Celebrity is drawing to a close and ITV has already announced its Monday night successor.
Reality television enthusiasts were eagerly anticipating the return of I’m A Celebrity… South Africa, and the series has certainly delivered.
The countdown is now underway until the grand finale airs on Friday, April 24, when one contestant will be crowned King or Queen of the Jungle during this live broadcast.
I’m A Celebrity has been screening every weeknight over recent weeks, and ITV has since confirmed what will be filling its Monday night timeslot.
New “thrilling espionage drama” Secret Service will be taking over from I’m A Celebrity next week on Monday, April 27, and it’s shaping up to be unmissable viewing.
The five-part drama starring Quantum of Solace actress Gemma Arterton centres on civil servant Kate, who appears to lead an “ordinary” life as a mother raising two teenagers.
“However, to those who don’t know her well, Kate’s true role is heading the Russia Desk at the Secret Intelligence Service”, the official synopsis reveals.
Yet after uncovering alarming evidence, Kate embarks on a “desperate race” to uncover the truth as she navigates the “dangerous world of espionage while trying to hold her family together”.
Not only is Secret Service an adaptation of ITV News presenter Tom Bradby’s “tense” novel of the same name, but the production also boasts a wealth of exceptional talent.
Joining Atherton in Secret Service are Under Salt Marsh’s Rafe Spall, Doctor Who’s Alex Kingston, Happy Valley favourite Mark Stanley and Endeavour’s Roger Allam.
Gangs of London’s Farren Blackburn helms several of the latter instalments, with the series co-penned by Bradby and Jemma Kennedy.
Speaking to Digital Spy, director James Marsh said: “I hope we’ve made something that’s good enough to keep watching across five episodes. The story is pretty arresting.
“And once you get into the story, there are very many surprises. It has twists in it that are quite unexpected.
“You want to give people something that they’re going to stick with and find compelling to watch. But the story contains lots of ideas, too…”
Secret Service premieres on Monday, April 27, at 9pm on ITV.
