Interest in on-screen video game projects continues to rage on in the entertainment industry, and two A-list celebrities revealed that they have their eyes set on a film adaptation of the popular Nintendo game, Duck Hunt.
Released in 1984, Duck Hunt is a Nintendo Entertainment System (NES) light gun shooter game. Players use the NES Zapper to aim at the ducks or clay pigeons on a CRT screen. Each round gives players three chances to hit their targets, while a hunting dog collects the prey or mocks the gamers by laughing at them if they miss.
While there are no official plans at the time of this article’s publication for a Duck Hunt movie, comedy icons Jack Black and Donald Glover expressed their interest in starring in a movie about the classic Nintendo game. In an interview with ScreenRant’s Ash Crossan for The Super Mario Galaxy Movie, the actors discussed how they would be thrilled to be a part of this potential adaptation and which roles they would play if they were asked to join the hypothetical cast.
During the conversation, the two actors implored studio executives to consider them for roles if a movie should ever come to fruition. They also explained how they might fit into a Duck Hunt film adaptation. Black said that he would want to be the one who hunted ducks. He eagerly stated, “I can go hunting ducks.”
Glover, on the other hand, said that he’d play the game’s mischievous and universally disliked unnamed dog. Despite not having an official name, the character is widely known as the “Laughing Dog” among players familiar with the game. He also agreed that his The Super Mario Galaxy Movie co-star would be a perfect duck hunter. “Yeah. I’ll play the dog. I can laugh at people. You should probably be the dog. I’ll be the hunter.”
The Super Mario Galaxy Movie is an animated adventure comedy film by Illumination and Nintendo serving as a sequel to The Super Mario Bros. Movie (2023). The film takes the franchise and its beloved characters into outer space, following Mario, Luigi, Princess Peach, and more as they journey across galaxies to confront Bowser and his son, Bowser Jr., while befriending Rosalina and Yoshi.
The movie features a huge ensemble voice cast that stars Chris Pratt (Mario), Anya Taylor‑Joy (Princess Peach), Charlie Day (Luigi), Keegan-Michael Key (Toad), Benny Safdie (Bowser Jr.), Glen Powell (Fox McCloud), Luis Guzmán(Wart), Kevin Michael Richardson (Kamek), and Brie Larson (Rosalina), alongside Black reprising his role as Bowser and Donald Glover as Yoshi.
The Super Mario Galaxy Movie is currently playing in theaters now.
