Jack Harlow’s latest preview suggests he’s finally combining both sides of his artistry.
Jack Harlow might be getting back into his rap bag.
The Louisville rapper recently shared a snippet of an unreleased track, and while it still carries some of the smooth, neo-soul and R&B influences that defined his latest album, Monica, there’s a noticeable shift in energy. Instead of the subdued delivery that drew criticism on his recent full-length effort, Harlow sounds more aggressive, confident, and comfortable behind the mic. It’s much closer to the version of Jack that fans originally gravitated toward.
Interestingly, he hasn’t completely abandoned the aesthetic that came with Monica. The production remains soulful and mellow, almost feeling like something Wale could glide over. The difference is that Jack sounds far more engaged, attacking the beat instead of simply floating through it.
Monica arrived with an impressive promotional campaign but ultimately failed to connect with many listeners. The issue wasn’t necessarily that Harlow leaned into singing. It was that his vocal performances often lacked energy and emotional punch. Before that, Jackman. also embraced a quieter, more restrained approach, leaving some fans longing for the charismatic rapper who effortlessly balanced wit, swagger, and commercial appeal.
Ironically, between those two albums, Harlow released the smash hit “Loving On Me,” a record that didn’t really fit either project’s identity but reminded everyone how naturally he can make a hit.
Could this upcoming release serve as the reset Jack Harlow needs? I hope so.
