PEORIA, Ill. (WMBD) — This weekend’s box office could come down to a three-way battle between fashion, music and fatalities.

According to Box Office Pro projections, “The Devil Wears Prada 2” is expected to stay near the top of the box office with another $15 million to $23 million this weekend.

After a huge run so far, the hit sequel has clearly connected with audiences, bringing back the nostalgia of the original while also giving fans a reason to return for more. But its path to number one is not exactly a runway walk.

Right behind it is “Michael,” the Michael Jackson biopic, which is also projected to land somewhere around $18 million to $23 million this weekend. That means the top spot could really come down to a coin flip.

After a massive opening, “Michael” is still showing strong legs at the box office, proving there is still plenty of interest in the King of Pop’s story.

Coming in at number three is “Mortal Kombat II.”

Box Office Pro is projecting the video game sequel to bring in somewhere in the high-teens to low-$20 million range. After opening strongly last weekend, the big question now is how well it can hold up against two massive holdovers.

So, this weekend is shaping up to be a box office battle between fashion, music and fatalities.

Jack’s Review: The Devil Wears Prada 2

Speaking of fashion, I went and saw “The Devil Wears Prada 2.”

I only watched the first movie for the very first time last week to get ready for this sequel, and I actually really enjoyed it. So going into this one, I was a little skeptical.

Overall, I had a fine time with it.

“The Devil Wears Prada 2” does not really break any new ground, and it does take a little while to get going. The start is a bit slow and rocky, but once the movie finds its footing, it becomes a pretty enjoyable follow-up.

The biggest reason this works is the cast.

Anne Hathaway is great once again. Meryl Streep, of course, is incredible. And Stanley Tucci is just a masterclass every time he is on screen.

That is where the movie really shines. It is seeing these characters back together and watching these actors bring their A-game again.

If you are a fan of the first “Devil Wears Prada,” I think you are going to have a good time with this one. If you are not, or if you are just curious, this is probably one you can wait to watch when it hits streaming.

It is not perfect, but I am glad they made it.

I am giving “The Devil Wears Prada 2” a 6.5 out of 10.
