  • The vice president claimed that “Joy Behar is way tougher than the Iranians” and they’re now “best friends.”

  • Behar revealed on The View’s podcast that she encouraged Vance to run for president when he was on the show.

JD Vance isn’t concerned about handling ongoing negotiations with Iran after going head-to-head with his new “best friend” Joy Behar on The View.

The United States and Iran signed an initial agreement to end the war on Wednesday, initiating a 60-day negotiation period between both countries to reach a final deal. And, after visiting The View this week, the vice president is feeling pretty optimistic.

Speaking with reporters on Thursday, Vance said that “the entire team has worked very well on this” and that “we’ve got this thing in a very good place for the American people” at this point.

“Now I have seen some progressive criticisms of me personally saying, ‘What experience does the vice president of the United States have with hostile, high-stakes negotiations?’” he said. “And I would point those progressive critics to the fact that just two days ago I spent over an hour on The View, so I actually have great experience in very hostile negotiations.”

He added, “I mean, look, Joy Behar is way tougher than the Iranians and she and I are best friends now, so we’re gonna get to a good place here. We’re already at a good place.”

Now, Vance said, “It’s just a question of whether we can really get the icing on the top of fundamentally transforming Iran’s relationship with the world.”

The Republican former senator appeared on Tuesday’s episode of The View, where he received a mixed reaction from the show’s audience upon arrival. However, Vance revealed during the interview that he actually received “the best endorsement” from Behar during a commercial break.

“So, Joy said when we were off air that I’m fine, which I think is about the best endorsement that I’m going to get out of Joy Behar, for a Republican,” he joked. “Thank you. Graded on a curve here at The View!”

Behar also spoke about Vance’s visit on Wednesday’s episode of The View’s Behind the Table podcast, calling the politician “very genial” and sharing that she believed he came onto the show in “good faith.”

She also revealed that she fully believes Vance is in the early stages of running for president and, if he wasn’t attached to Trump, he might “go back to being a kinder person,” adding, “Trump is the one who’s not kind.”

When View producer Brian Teta asked if Behar was endorsing Vance, she quickly clarified, “No, no, because I’m not voting for him anyway, especially if he runs against one of the good Democrats that we have out there. I’ve never voted for a Republican in my life.”

Still, Teta pointed out that, “during the break,” Behar told Vance “he should run for president because he has a good vibe.”

Behar did encourage Vance to run. “I think [he should]… for a Republican, I do,” she said. “I’m not a Republican. I don’t mind a Republican on the city level because it needs a little discipline, but on the national level, I want somebody with a good heart, and those are more in the Democratic party in my opinion. They care about the poor, they help people. The Republican party is more about saving taxes for the rich people.”

She continued, “Truthfully, as I said to you in the beginning of this conversation, I don’t think that [Vance is] a bad guy, so if he runs against, say, Gavin Newsom, that’ll be an interesting debate to see those two, because they’re both intelligent.”
