Jennifer Aniston’s reproductive choices have unfairly been a hot topic in Hollywood for two decades. Now, The Morning Show star is breaking her silence (again) on how the public conversation impacted her.
For fans who remember the Brangelina love triangle, the tabloids often blamed Aniston for Brad Pitt’s decision to have an affair with Angelina Jolie. They claimed she didn’t want kids, so he left her for that reason. It’s a narrative that’s just as hurtful and cruel to hear 20 years later. In 2016, she published a personal essay for the celebrity.land titled, “For The Record, I Am Not Pregnant. What I Am Is Fed Up.”

At the time, she was married to Justin Theroux and she was exhausted of the headlines. (Who can blame her?)
She wrote, “I have grown tired of being part of this narrative. Yes, I may become a mother someday, and since I’m laying it all out there, if I ever do, I will be the first to let you know. But I’m not in pursuit of motherhood because I feel incomplete in some way, as our celebrity news culture would lead us all to believe.”
She revealed her IVF journey to Allure in December 2022, and it was heartbreaking to hear what she was going through behind the scenes while the tabloids went bananas about her parenting choices.
“I was trying to get pregnant. It was a challenging road for me, the baby-making road,” she said. “All the years and years and years of speculation… It was really hard. I was going through IVF, drinking Chinese teas, you name it. I was throwing everything at it. I would’ve given anything if someone had said to me, ‘Freeze your eggs. Do yourself a favor.’ You just don’t think it.”
In a new Harper’s Bazaar UK interview, the 56-year-old star is reflecting on the pain she endured at the hands of the media.
“They didn’t know my story, or what I’d been going through over the past 20 years to try to pursue a family, because I don’t go out there and tell them my medical woes,” Aniston said. “That’s not anybody’s business. But there comes a point when you can’t not hear it – the narrative about how I won’t have a baby, won’t have a family, because I’m selfish, a workaholic. It does affect me – I’m just a human being.“
She hoped that by speaking up for herself, others would understand that she was also in solidarity with “women who were struggling with the same issue.” Aniston’s story was deeply personal, but also extremely relatable to many women. It’s a reminder not to judge anyone’s family choices because nobody knows what they’ve endured behind the scenes.
