Jennifer Aniston has spoken candidly about her fertility struggles, saying she has felt affected by her unsuccessful IVF treatments.

Jennifer, 56, opened up about how female celebrities are treated by the media, especially when it comes to whether they have children or not.

This comes as the Friends star recently appeared on Stephen Colbert’s show to discuss the latest season of her Apple TV+ drama, The Morning Show. During the appearance, Jennifer jokingly auditioned Stephen for a role on the show, which follows a team of broadcast journalists as they navigate the day-to-day operations of running a breakfast show. In Stephen’s faux audition, Jennifer joked that they’re “doing some preliminary casting for this fifth season, that we hope happens,” explaining that she’d let Stephen try it out while she was there.

Stephen agreed to audition as Jennifer revealed she had a scene for him to try, right then and there. The pair did a skit, with Stephen as a weatherman, as they joked about his show’s cancellation.

However, more recently, Jennifer has spoken about some more sombre experiences in her life.

Speaking to Harper’s Bazaar, Jennifer explained that for 20 years, she felt like she was under constant scrutiny from the media to get pregnant, however, what many didn’t realize is that the Bounty Hunter actress was going through her own private IVF journey.

In 2016, she broke her silence surrounding the topic to condemn the media for their scrutiny of her and her reproductive choices.

“They didn’t know my story, or what I’d been going through over the past 20 years to try to pursue a family, because I don’t go out there and tell them my medical woes,” Jennifer said.

Continuing, the star noted that it does “affect” her as she’d been trying for so long to have the children that the media continuously pressures her for.

“That’s not anybody’s business. But there comes a point when you can’t not hear it – the narrative about how I won’t have a baby, won’t have a family, because I’m selfish, a workaholic,” Jennifer remarked. “It does affect me – I’m just a human being. We’re all human beings. That’s why I thought, ‘What the hell?'”

Jennifer further noted that she chose to speak out in 2016, not just for herself but because she knew “a lot of women at the time who were trying to have kids, who were dealing with IVF. So it did feel like it was not only for myself, but for any women who were struggling with the same issue.”

However, whilst the 56-year-old noted that the “circle of shame” from the tabloid press has lessened in recent years, she shared her concerns about how this culture has moved online instead.

Calling out social media critics, she told Harper’s Bazaar, “Now any schmuck can stay anonymous and write whatever the hell they want to write.”

Despite Jennifer’s struggles with IVF, she is thriving in her career, with the fifth season of The Morning Show being commissioned. She’s also working with Apple TV+ again, as part of a series based on Jennette McCurdy’s bestselling coming-of-age memoir, I’m Glad My Mom Died.
