Jennifer Aniston has admitted her true feelings about whether Ross and Rachel were “on a break” during a pivotal episode of Friends.
Jennifer, 56, who played Rachel Green in all 10 seasons of the show, took to social media on Saturday, November 8, to share her true thoughts on the situation.
The “on a break” storyline has long been a topic of debate, with fans divided for decades. And as most Friends fans will know, this plot started in the 15th episode of season three when, after an argument, Ross slept with a girl named Chloe, who worked at the Xerox shop.
The day after Ross sleeps with Chloe, Rachel leaves him a voicemail saying she wanted to work their relationship out, with the “we were on a break” line becoming a gag throughout the series after she finds out about the incident.
However, 28 years on from the episode, Jennifer Aniston has revealed how she truly felt about the storyline, telling fans if Ross and Rachel were actually on a break.
The Bounty Hunter actress shared a meme to her Instagram Story, which showed a photo of a doormat saying, “Deliveres: Were Ross and Rachel on a break?” with one arrow pointing to “yes” and one to “no.”
In the picture captioned, “I feel that I need to have a conversation with my delivery guy,” the parcel can be seen next to the “no” option.
Fans have been quick to believe that this means Jennifer is also in agreement that Ross and Rachel weren’t on a break, her own character’s opinion in the show.
On social media, fans responded to the meme, with one writing, “Nothing to do with taking sides. Simply, did Ross CHEAT on Rachel? The Answer. No”
Another person also added, “Yeah, technically it wasn’t cheating, but it was still pretty shitty of him.”
“When I was watching the series while in high school, I completely agreed with Ross and thought that Rachel was being overly dramatic and should get over it,” a third person wrote, before noting, “After rewatching it as an adult, I completely switched and agree with Rachel. He may not have cheated technically, but if the first thing you do after you fight and take a break is sleep with someone else, you don’t really care about the other person or that relationship. I’d be pissed too.”
Ross and Rachel’s relationship was one of the key continuous storylines of Friends throughout its 10-season tenure. The pair officially started dating in the second season, becoming parents to Emma in the season eight finale. At the end of the acclaimed NBC show, Rachel then had to decide if she wanted to take a job in Paris or stay in New York to be with Ross, choosing him in the end.
