Jennifer Lopez recently recalled how she faced some rejection early on in her acting career.
On Wednesday, September 10, the pop star, 56, attended a Q&A for her upcoming movie Kiss of the Spider Woman, and revealed that she had tried out for the 1996 musical Evita but didn’t book the role, according to Variety.
“I went to audition for Evita for [director] Alan Parker,” the “Jenny From the Block” hitmaker recalled. “I had been practicing for weeks and I sing my heart out and he goes, ‘You’re amazing. You know Madonna has the part, right?’”
“I said, ‘OK, bye-bye,’” Lopez laughed. “Nice to meet you!”

Madonna, 67, famously starred as Eva Perón in the film, which won an Academy Award for Best Original Song at the 1997 Oscars.
However, everything worked out in the end for the Selena actress, who was thrilled to sign on for Kiss of the Spider Woman.
“It couldn’t have been a better one for me, I don’t think,” Lopez explained. “I was really really glad to be able to do it, step into Chita Rivera’s shoes and Sônia Braga, and everybody who kind of did this role before me.”
Catch Kiss of the Spider Woman in theaters on Friday, October 10.
