In addition to venturing into the farming industry with his Diddly Squat Farm, TV presenter Jeremy Clarkson opened an accompanying shop with local goods with his partner Lisa Hogan, before undertaking the massive renovation project of his pub, The Farmer’s Dog. Throughout his Prime Video docuseries, Clarkson’s Farm, viewers gained insight into the mammoth task of taking over rural country pub The Windmill in Asthall.
After multiple clashes with West Oxfordshire District Council, the pub eventually had its grand opening in August 2024, which reportedly saw hundreds of people queuing for hours to enter the Farmer’s Dog on its first day. After purchasing the pub for around £1,000,000 last year, Jeremy has free rein and serves his alcohol brand Hawkstone in its many forms. This includes lager, cider, IPA and stout. As a result, the pub has proved popular with both locals, tourists and Clarkson’s Farm fans after it became the main focus of season four.
Despite the pub’s popularity and rave reviews, the former Top Gear star was dealt a major blow after the Farmer’s Dog was snubbed from the prestigious Good Beer Guide 2026 by The Campaign for Real Ale (CAMRA).
Listing 4,500 of the best boozers from across the UK, as many as 67 entries have been made for Oxfordshire, but Jeremy’s pub was not one of them.
A CAMRA spokesperson addressed the snub via the Oxford Mail and stated: “The Guide is the definitive guidebook to pubs that serve great cask beer, and uses an independent, volunteer-led selection process that makes it the authoritative and trusted voice of cask beer drinkers.
“Listings in the Guide are highly competitive and do change year on year. Entries in the Guide are decided by the hardworking volunteers of local CAMRA branches across the UK.”
While Jeremy has yet to address being left off the guide, it was also revealed that Charlbury’s well-regarded country pub, The Bull, led by Michelin-starred chef Sally Abé, was also snubbed, despite being visited by former US Vice President Kamala Harris earlier this year.
This comes just days after the TV star’s former co-host, James May, hit back at Jeremy for “banning” him from his Farmer’s Dog pub.
When asked about it on ITV’s Lorraine, James said, “Well, apparently. But I have said before that it’s a bit like being banned from the golf club, because I wasn’t going to go anyway.”
The ITV host burst out laughing as the Top Gear star elaborated: “I’ve got my own pub, which is just around the corner, so I’m not going to go 75 miles to his. Especially if mine is better.”
