Jerry Seinfeld isn’t much fun to hang out with these days.
Sources tell Globe that the former Seinfeld star, 71, is constantly grumbling and complaining, and it’s caused him to go from “the life and soul of the party to a tuned-out, grumpy old man.”
“Jerry has turned his annoyances into a gold mine via his comedy performances and TV show, but the complaining that used to be his secret weapon now just gets on people’s nerves,” a source explains. “Remember, this is one of the most successful people in the history of show business, both financially and artistically. But he’s almost allergic to counting his own blessings, and that’s not a good look for a man at retirement age with more money than he could spend in ten lifetimes.”
The source adds that it “all comes down to” his wife of 25 years, Jessica, because she’s one of the only people “who isn’t a fellow comedian who can give Jerry a reality check” and remind him to leave his grievances on stage.

“The whole reason she and Jerry have managed to last for so long is her sunny, never-say-die personality, and it would be a shame if this marriage slowly faded into Grumpy Old Man territory where she just has to patiently listen to his grievances day in and day out,” the source continues. “I wouldn’t wish that on anybody. The thing that will snap Jerry out of his rut would be a fun, new project or challenge that he can really sink his teeth into, like the way his old friend Larry David is launching a new TV show with Barack Obama.”
However, the source says that the problem is the Bee Movie star isn’t really on the hunt for new projects similar to what David, 78, is doing right now.
“As far as he’s concerned, he’s done it all and people still don’t appreciate him enough!” the source says, before adding that there are some things that have been bringing the former sitcom star down lately, including the reception of his 2024 film Unfrosted.

“Unfrosted was terribly received and was a struggle to even get made because of the strikes,” the source explains. “I’m sure he’d like to end his career on a high note but nothing much is in the works right now.”
Unfrosted is loosely based on the story of Pop-Tarts and follows a rivalry in the early 1960s between breakfast-food giants Kellogg’s and Post as they race to invent a revolutionary toaster pastry. Even with Seinfeld at the directing helm and comedians like Melissa McCarthy and more making up the cast, it failed to impress many people and received poor reviews.
