Jesse Eisenberg’s 9-year-old son Banner is eager to star in more of his dad’s films
At the Minions & Monsters premiere, the actor told PEOPLE “my kid wants to be in all the movies”
Banner previously had a cameo in his dad’s Oscar-winning 2024 film A Real Pain
If Jesse Eisenberg‘s son had it his way, he would appear in all of the star’s films!
At the Los Angeles premiere of Minions & Monsters on Sunday, June 28, the actor and director, 42, revealed that his 9-year-old son Banner, whom he shares with wife Anna Strout, has expressed interest in appearing in more of his projects.
Asked if his sister Hallie Kate Eisenberg, a former child star best known for starring as “The Pepsi Girl,” would ever cameo in one of his films, Jesse told PEOPLE it’s not in the cards — but his son is interested.
“No, my kid wants to be in all the movies, though,” he said of the 9-year-old, who previously had a brief cameo in A Real Pain, Eisenberg’s Oscar-winning 2024 film starring himself and Kieran Culkin.

At the Minions & Monsters premiere at Hollywood’s Dolby Theater, Jesse also revealed that Banner is a fan of the Minions movies — spinoffs of the Despicable Me films fronted by the yellow, goggle-wearing sidekicks to protagonist Gru (Steve Carell).
“My kid loves the movies,” he told PEOPLE of the animated franchise. And so does Jesse — particularly the latest installment, which sees the iconic henchmen find themselves as accidental stars in 1920s Hollywood.
“We saw the movie together alone in a screening room — because we saw it before it came out — and my kid was just cackling at all of the great Minion stuff, but I was just laughing as like a lover of Old Hollywood at all of the incredible, subtle, funny references they make to Old Hollywood,” he said of the third Minions film.
As for why he wanted to reprise his voice acting work in another animated film after previously starring as the feathered protagonist of Rio and Rio 2, released in 2011 and 2014 respectively, the actor said it was an easy decision.
“When I got asked to be in this movie, it felt like I got called because they told me I was winning the lottery,” Jesse told PEOPLE at the L.A. premiere. “To get into one of these movies is like an actor’s dream, because it’s so fun to be in without all of the anxieties of your own vanity and having to see your weird face on a screen.”
“It’s just pure joy, and then to be in a movie like this, which celebrates filmmaking and Old Hollywood as I’m directing my own movies, to me, was just like a perfect serendipitous thrill,” added Jesse.

The actor and director — best known for starring in films like The Social Network and the Now You See Me franchise — first made his feature directorial debut with 2022’s When You Finish Saving the World starring Julianne Moore and Finn Wolfhard. He then returned to the director’s chair for A Real Pain and his upcoming film The Debut, which stars Moore, 65, and Paul Giamatti.
Jesse previously said that Banner’s uncredited appearance as Abe, the son of Eisenberg’s character David, in A Real Pain added a “personal” touch to the second film he directed.

“I wanted my kid to be in it, because it’s such a personal story. … It’s not just a movie for me,” the star told the International Center for MultiGenerational Legacies of Trauma in January 2025.
“It’s really more of a touchstone and a kind of memory piece,” Jesse continued before praising the 9-year-old’s performance. “And so I just wanted my kid to be in there,” he added, “and they did such a great job.”
Minions & Monsters releases in theaters July 1.
