Jessica Simpson Addresses Reuniting With Ex-Husband Eric Johnson & Clarifies Her Relationship Status

Jessica Simpson spoke about her recent reunion with ex-husband Eric Johnson while on the red carpet at the MTV VMAs but also shared an update about her relationship status.

Simpson told E! News that she and Johnson are one “big, happy family” after their divorce. Simpson was asked about spending time with Johnson and her parents at her sister Ashlee Simpson’s I Am Me residency in Las Vegas.

“We are all a big, happy family, so it’s important for all of us,” she said. “We wouldn’t have missed Ashlee, are you kidding me? It was such a moment,” she added of seeing her younger sister perform. “I was a mess. I cried probably seven times.”

In a separate interview on the VMAs red carpet, Simpson, 45, also spoke about her relationship status, confirming that she’s single.

“I’m single, so everybody is sexy right now,” Simpson told People after being asked who should be on the cover of People‘s next Sexiest Man Alive issue. Simpson then listed out a few of her celebrity crushes, including, Charlie Hunnam, James Franco, and Jamie Dornan.

Simpson has been single since revealing her separation from Johnson in January. “Eric and I have been living separately navigating a painful situation in our marriage,” she said in a statement at the time. “Our children come first, and we are focusing on what is best for them. We are grateful for all of the love and support that has been coming our way, and appreciate privacy right now as we work through this as a family.”

The exes, who married in 2014, share three children: daughter Maxwell Drew, 13; son Ace Knute, 12; and daughter Birdie Mae, 6.
