Jim Jones has shared some kind words about Drake, while comparing him to one of the greatest sportsmen of all time.
Appearing on a new episode of The Danza Project, the Dipset capo was asked if there was anyone in music today who could release three albums in a single day and capture the world’s attention the way Drizzy did with Iceman, Habibti, and Maid Of Honour.
After taking a moment to shout out Drake (and Kendrick Lamar), Jones said the only artists he believed could complete the same feat are Jay-Z and 2Pac. However, after the show’s hosts clarified that they wanted to know if anyone “active” today could do it, the “We Fly High” rapper changed his tune.
“No, I would be honest. And that takes [nothing] away from none of my brothers who’s on fire out there, and I think they know it also and s**t like that,” Jones said.
He was then asked if he thought Tory Lanez could do it, to which he replied: “Nah. I want to say — and I love Tory — whatever album he going to put out [is] going spank and slap. With three albums, Tory right now, we haven’t seen him. We ain’t got no motion … It’s just different.
“The power that Drake had and the marketing behind it and the strategies behind it … It’s just a lot. And the narrative. People are waiting for that. It’s just a lot. He just had gon’ through the biggest lawsuit with UMG … Drake is at the top of this thing, man.”
Jones then took a moment to celebrate Jay-Z, calling the ROC Nation head honcho “the G.O.A.T.” and adding that he deserves his “Michael Jordan flowers.” But he quickly turned the attention back to Drake, saying: “I would say the G.O.A.T. of what’s going on right now would happen to be Drake.”
The Dipset rapper and podcaster went as far as to compare Drake to Muhammad Ali, explaining that the boxing legend “lost too” — comparing Drizzy’s public loss to Kendrick Lamar during their 2024 beef to Ali’s first professional defeat to Joe Fraizer in 1971.
“We talked about Ali-Frazier too. That’s what we talked about,” he said. “Knockouts. Was it the Thriller in Manila? What the f**k are we talking about then? Ya heard? And that’s how it go and s**t like that. I’m just a fan of all of this too. I’m speaking from a fan’s perspective.”
Towards the end of the topic, Jones realized he had forgotten someone who he feels could drop three albums in one day and be a trending topic: Kanye West.
This isn’t the first time that Jim Jones has heaped this type of praise on Drake. In May, during an interview with Angela Yee, Jones said that Drizzy had done more for hip-hop culture “than most of these people.”
He also stood by his claim that Drake is the greatest of all time — a statement he made during a March 2023 interview with Complex‘s Jordan Rose.
