Ben Stiller, Jamie Lee Curtis, and other celebrities have come to Jimmy Kimmel’s defense after his ABC program was axed following controversial comments he made regarding the death of Conservative commentator Charlie Kirk.
This morning, an ABC network representative announced that Jimmy Kimmel Live would be canceled indefinitely after a 22-year run.
“Jimmy Kimmel Live will be pre-empted indefinitely,” the spokesperson stated. The decision followed the remarks the comedian and host made during his program about Charlie Kirk’s death.
During Monday evening’s monologue, he declared: “The MAGA Gang desperately trying to characterize this kid who murdered Charlie Kirk as anything other than one of them and doing everything they can to score political points from it.”
Hollywood A-listers have now condemned ABC’s choice, while viewers have labeled Disney, ABC’s parent corporation, as “cowards” for the decision.
Mike Birbiglia of Orange is the New Black took to Instagram with a handwritten message: “I’ve spent a lot of time in public and private defending comedians I don’t agree with. If you’re a comedian and you don’t call out the insanity of pulling Kimmel off the air, don’t bother spouting off about free speech anymore.”
Wanda Sykes, known for her role on Curb Your Enthusiasm, expressed her thoughts through an Instagram video: “Let’s see. He didn’t end the Ukraine war or solve the Gaza issue within his first week. But he did end freedom of speech within his first year. Hey, for those of you who pray, now’s the time to do it. Love you, Jimmy.”
Alison Brie from Community shared her disbelief on Instagram, stating: “This is unreal. And very scary.”
Josh Gad of Frozen fame commented, “I see we are at the passive participation of authoritarianism now. God help us all.”
Outraged fans also voiced their opinions online, with one particularly incensed comment on X reading: “THIS IS ABSOLUTE B——T: Disney is pulling Jimmy Kimmel’s show ‘indefinitely’ because he made some comments about Charlie Kirk. Bending the knee to fascism again? F–k you, @Disney cowards. I STAND WITH JIMMY KIMMEL.”
One commenter expressed alarm, saying: “The fact that Jimmy Kimmel just got pulled off the air for what he said should REALLY scare everyone.”
Another chimed in with disbelief: “Imagine firing Jimmy Kimmel for speaking his truth? It’s a joke of the century. They should get Piers Morgan to come host a few talk shows, and he definitely speaks his truth without holding back. America has lost the plot.”
In related news, this week saw 22-year-old Tyler Robinson face charges of aggravated murder following the shooting of conservative activist Kirk in the neck at a rally held at Utah Valley University last Wednesday.
