KANSAS CITY — It was the Jo Adell game in Kansas City as the 26-year-old outfielder accounted for all of the Halos’ offense on Wednesday night, driving in four RBI, including a three-run home run, en route to securing a Los Angeles series win by a final score of 4-3.
Caden Dana, who was the scheduled starter for the Halos on Wednesday, was recalled from Triple-A Salt Lake City just a day prior and had himself a solid outing of work, toeing the slab for five strong innings and only allowing one earned run on two hits and striking out four Royals at Kauffman Stadium. Cana was mowing down hitters until he ran into some trouble in the third inning, where he found himself giving up a sac bunt to centerfielder Kyle Isbel and a sac fly to right fielder Mike Yastrzemski.
After escaping the third, Cana would settle in once more and finish his night off by making Isbel ground into a double play to end his night.
Adell was the hero of the game for the Angels for many reasons, and that is mostly due to the outfielder being the entirety of the offense for Los Angeles. His offensive production would start late in the game, as late as the sixth inning, but the result would be beneficial nonetheless.
Zach Neto led off the Angels’ top half of the sixth with a free base and would immediately be followed up by a single from Yoán Moncada to put runners on first and second with Adell set to step up to the plate. Adell wasted no time as he was first-pitch swinging against Royals’ right-hander John Schreiber and torched a ball that traveled 418 feet for a go-ahead three-run home run.
The Royals would quickly respond as the second baseman, Adam Frazier, would hit an RBI double that allowed Tyler Tolbert to score from second and tie the game 3-3.
Adell heard the call of need and was able to deliver again in the eighth, as Moncada would hit a double with one out, and Adell would come up a few batters later. In a full count, Adell would hit a short dribbler to the Kansas City shortstop Bobby Witt Jr., and he had trouble making a play on it, which allowed Moncada to score and give the Halos the lead late in the game.
Reid Detmers was tasked with getting the final three outs and did so with efficiency as the Angels secured the series win against the Royals and look to achieve the sweep tomorrow.
