More than 100 Latino creatives have signed an open letter to Hollywood after widespread controversy broke out over Odessa A’zion’s casting in the A24 adaptation “Deep Cuts” as the character Zoe Gutierrez. The letter asks decision-makers to increase Latino voices in development and greenlighting projects, as well as the amount of Latino actors in auditions and non-stereotypical leads.
Among those signing the letter are Eva Longoria, John Leguizamo, Xochitl Gomez, Danny Ramirez, Gina Rodriguez, Gloria Calderon Kellett and Jessica Alba.
A’zion dropped out of the movie on Wednesday, saying she had not yet read the book. “I am with all of you and I am not doing this movie,” she wrote on Instagram.
