Johnny Depp addressed one of Hollywood’s most talked-about comeback rumors during the premiere of his latest film, Modi: Three Days on the Wing of Madness. The actor shared a brief three-word response when asked about returning as Captain Jack Sparrow in Disney’s Pirates of the Caribbean franchise.

At the Los Angeles premiere of his new film Modi: Three Days on the Wing of Madness on Nov. 4, Johnny Depp addressed the possibility of returning to Disney’s Pirates of the Caribbean franchise. When asked by Entertainment Tonight if he would reprise his role as Captain Jack Sparrow, Depp replied, “That’d be fun.”
Depp, 62, did not elaborate further on the comment but remains one of only three actors to appear in all five films of the franchise, alongside Geoffrey Rush and Kevin McNally. The first installment, The Curse of the Black Pearl, released in 2003, launched the series into a global phenomenon. His last studio film appearance was in Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald in 2018.
Producer Jerry Bruckheimer, who worked with Depp across the Pirates series, discussed the potential for the actor’s return in August. “If he likes the way the part’s written, I think he would do it,” Bruckheimer told Entertainment Weekly. “We are still working on a screenplay. We want to make it. We just got to get the right screenplay. We haven’t quite gotten there yet, but we’re close.”
Depp is currently directing Modi: Three Days on the Wing of Madness, a biographical drama inspired by artist Amedeo Modigliani. “It was something that Al [Pacino] was going to do a long, long time ago,” Depp said. “He called me, and he said, ‘John, I think you should direct this film.’”
His upcoming role as Ebenezer Scrooge in Ebenezer: A Christmas Carol marks another shift in his career. Depp described Alastair Sim’s 1951 version as “perfection” and said he aims to find “a different angle on Scrooge” in the upcoming adaptation.
