Look, I’m about to give you some further information, but it’s really not that important. Your main takeaway here is that Judiciary are back and that their new song is called motherfucking “Wall Of Skulls.” This is obviously great news. If you aren’t already banging your head to that song, you’re fucking up. Fix it.
We last heard from Lubbock, Texas hardcore thrashers Judiciary when they released the beautifully heavy 2023 album Flesh + Blood. Now, they’re coming back with the new 12″ EP Stalagmite Angels, and their hulking frontman Jake Collinson learned to play guitar specifically so that he could help write these riffs. He did a good job, and so did his bandmates. “Wall Of Skulls” has some monster riffs, as well as evil atmosphere and a downright dangerous breakdown. Best lyric: “I left with your head and took it beneath! A relic added to my wall of skulls! I fall to none, motherfucker!” Yeah, me neither, motherfucker!
If this is how the rest of the record sounds, then the world is about to become slightly more violent. Here’s what Collinson says about it:
’90s hardcore and hardcore in general is always gonna be our natural inclination, but it manifests with different elements not only from song to song but within each song. Whether that’s Dying Breed or Cannibal Corpse or Crowbar or Machine Head or any number of other influences that any one of us may have, it all manifests in our work, and through our individual and collective lenses. With this EP, we transformed those ideas into the Judiciary approach.
In the Wes Ellis-directed “Wall Of Skulls” video, a lady wakes up to find herself deep in a cavern with a caveman zombie, and some other supernatural stuff happens. I thought the caveman zombie was Jake Collinson, but no, it’s some other caveman-looking motherfucker.
