Julia Jacklin is returning with her fourth album, The Gem, set for release this September.
Scheduled for release on Friday, 25 September, The Gem marks the Australian singer-songwriter’s debut release on 4AD / Remote Control Records. In addition to announcing the album, Jacklin has unveiled her new single, Get Away From Me (I Think I’ll Love You Soon), which premiered on triple j yesterday (15 June).
The jangle-rock-inspired number, also influenced by the many sounds of Melbourne’s music scene, is bold and fun. Check out the music video below and pre-order/pre-save the album here.
The Gem was produced by Jacklin and Robert Muinos and recorded in Melbourne, her first album to be created that way. Muinos, owner of Rat Shack Studios, was a key collaborator alongside Jacklin’s friends Jacob Diamond (guitar), Mimi Gilbert (bass), and Jess Elwood (drums).
“I want to love and be loved, but I also want to be free. The tension between those two things has been the central question of my life,” Jacklin explained, revealing that that’s the theme integral to The Gem.

Jacklin’s latest album is named after the pub, The Gem, located in the inner Melbourne suburb of Collingwood. It was a place where she pushed herself outside her comfort zone when she moved to Melbourne in 2017. Rat Shack Studios is above the pub, where the album was created.
Initially, the plan was to complete the album in two weeks, like Jacklin always has. However, that wasn’t the case: the record took almost a year to complete, following tinkering with songs in the studio.
“The Gem felt like a metaphor for the whole process, because a lot of it did feel like digging,” she explained. “I felt like I was doing it almost in the dark, just trusting I was going to find something.”
The Pressure To Party singer will promote the album with a string of performances at independent record stores across the UK and Ireland later this month, followed by tour dates across North America, the UK and Europe from October into early 2027.
Julia Jacklin is one of Australia’s most revered, celebrated songwriters. The Gem follows three celebrated solo records: 2016’s Don’t Let The Kids Win, 2019’s Crushing, and 2022’s PRE PLEASURE.
Jacklin has received nominations at the ARIA and Libera Awards, to name a few, has sold out shows globally, and has shared the stage with Mitski, Lana Del Rey, Courtney Barnett, and Faye Webster. She’s appeared on festival stages like Glastonbury, Primavera, Newport Folk and Pitchfork Music Festival, with albums charting on the ARIA and Billboard charts.
