Musician Julio Iglesias has been accused of sexually assaulting two former employees. They have claimed that they were subjected to “inappropriate touching, insults and humiliation … in an atmosphere of control and constant harassment”. The two women alleged the assaults happened in 2021. They were employed at Iglesias’ homes in the Dominican Republic and the Bahamas.
The allegations came following an investigation by the Spanish TV network Univision Noticias and news site elDiario.es, which collected testimonies from 15 former employers of the 82-year-old between the late 1990s and 2023. elDiario.es said in its report today (Tuesday, January 13): “These interviews describe the women’s [claims of] conditions of isolation, labour disputes, the hierarchical structure of the staff, and the tense atmosphere created by Iglesias’s short-tempered character.
“The two women who reported sexual assault were interviewed repeatedly over more than a year, and their accounts remained consistent throughout.”
ElDiario.es also reported that the two women filed a formal complaint at Audiencia Nacional, which is Spain’s highest criminal court, accusing the musician of sexual assault and human trafficking.
Journalists from the outlets made “repeated efforts to contact” Iglesias’ lawyer but have not received a response to questions sent via phone, letter and email.
Express.co.uk has contacted Iglesias’ representatives for comment today (Tuesday, January 13).
However, one woman who was one of the victims’ first supervisors at Iglesias’ mansion in Punta Cana, in the Dominican Republic, dismissed the allegations as “nonsense”.
She described him as a “humble, generous, great gentleman, and very respectful to all women”.
The singer was also supported by the president of the Madrid region, Isabel Díaz Ayuso, who wrote on X: “Women are being attacked and raped in Iran with the complicit silence of the far left. The region of Madrid will never contribute to the discrediting of artists and still less so when it comes to the most universal of all singers: Julio Iglesias.”
A reported in the Independent, A prosecution spokesman at the Spanish National Court said: “In view of the news reports published today concerning Julio Iglesias and given the interest shown by the media, I would like to inform you that a complaint was filed with the Public Prosecutor’s Office of the Audiencia Nacional on 5 January 2026.
“Preliminary criminal investigation proceedings have been initiated, which, as you know, are confidential.
“Given the nature of the allegations and reiterating the confidential (secret) nature of the public prosecutor’s investigation, and in the interests of protecting the alleged victims, it is not appropriate to provide further information.”
