Blake Lively has had a legal win against Justin Baldoni when his countersuit against her was officially thrown out last week.
Baldoni previously filed a $400 million extortion and defamation lawsuit against Lively, her husband, Ryan Reynolds, and The New York Times. The actor/director first filed the lawsuit in January 2025, a month after Lively claimed that on the set of the film It Ends With Us, Baldoni created a hostile work environment, participated in sexual harassment, and tried to create a smear campaign against her.
Baldoni countersued, claiming it was an attempt to destroy his reputation. He included The New York Times as the publication ran a December 2024 article detailing Lively’s claims.
The case was originally thrown out by US District Judge Lewis Liman in June, but on October 17, the judge gave Baldoni and his team until the end of the month “to show cause why final judgment should not be entered in this case and why The Times’ motion should not be dismissed,” according to court documents obtained by Express US.
On October 31, it was ruled by Liman that Baldoni and his company, Wayfarer Studios, missed the deadline to revive their case. He added that only Lively “responded to the Order to Show Cause.”
Baldoni’s legal woes started in December 2024 when Lively accused Baldoni of sexual harassment, creating a hostile work environment, and orchestrating a smear campaign against her. Baldoni has refuted all these claims.
Lively’s court case against Baldoni is still pending, with a trial date set for May 2026.
The Express US has reached out to Baldoni and Lively’s representatives for comment.
