(NewsNation) — Pop star Justin Bieber headlined Coachella on Saturday with a performance that left many attendees and online viewers confused and disappointed.
Bieber’s late‑night set featured 34 songs spanning his early hits through his more recent albums, “Swag” and “Swag II.” At one point, however, he sat at a computer onstage and began playing YouTube videos, according to SFGATE.
He clicked on the music video for his 2021 hit “Baby,” let it play for about a minute, then switched to other older songs, repeating the brief playback pattern. For much of the segment, Bieber sang along with the videos.
He later clicked through several viral clips on YouTube, including footage from his widely circulated “not clocking to you” paparazzi confrontation.
Subscription fees for YouTube Premium, Music are increasing
After the set ended, social media users criticized the performance, with some calling it “the worst” they had seen at the festival. Clips of the moment circulated widely online.
“No, but wait, he’s sitting on a chair and playing videos of his own clips as background footage for his set???? I’m blown away,” one user wrote on X.
In a video posted on X, singer Katy Perry joked during the performance, saying, “Thank God he has Premium. I don’t wanna see no ads.”
Other fans defended Bieber, saying the unconventional set felt more authentic and nostalgic.
The Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival began Friday, April 10, and runs through Sunday, April 19.
