Kaia Gerber Evokes the ‘80s in Valentino for ‘The Shards’ Premiere

Kaia Gerber channeled ’80s glam in Valentino for the red carpet premiere of FX’s “The Shards” in New York City on Monday night.

The Vuori campaign star and actress wore a shimmering column gown courtesy of the Italian luxury fashion house, featuring thin straps and a delicate diamond pattern formed by precisely placed beads across semi-sheer fabric.

Sparkling yet simple, Gerber’s dress eschewed 1980s high glam for a look that was pared back yet still glamorous enough to evoke the decade. The semi-sheer fabric also lent a contemporary sensuality to the overall look.

Gerber, the daughter of longtime model Cindy Crawford, accessorized wth regent diamond earrings courtesy of Briony Raymond and completed the look with a pair of Minny sandal heels by Jimmy Choo. Her glam also offered an understated ’80s homage, with voluminous, sideswept hair, smoky eyes and a glossy lip. Stylist Emma Jade Morrison, who also works with “Love Story” breakout star Sarah Pidgeon, curated Gerber’s red carpet look.

Despite the American 1980s reputation for high-gloss, high-glam aesthetics, Gerber found a happy medium between paying homage to the decade while also incorporating timeless elements throughout her look.

Indeed, while shimmering from head to toe, the Valentino dress retained simplicity and sensuality inn equal measure classic and contemporary — not an easy feat to achieve, especially while promoting a series rooted in the ’80s aesthetic.

FX’s “The Shards” is a series adaptation of the bestselling thriller by Bret Easton Ellis. The story follows a group of teenagers coming of age in mysterious 1981 Los Angeles while a serial killer wreaks havoc throughout the city. The series lands on Hulu Aug. 5.
