Royals score two in the ninth to top Twins – Twin Cities

The Kansas City Royals were defeated 4-2 by the St. Louis Cardinals on Saturday. Kansas City is now fifth in the American League Central standings with a 19-27 overall record. It has been a challenging season for the ball club. The same can be said for starting pitcher Noah Cameron. However, the southpaw pitched well against the Cardinals despite the defeat.

Cameron allowed only three earned runs across six innings of work. He added four strikeouts and he did not walk anybody in the contest. Cameron allowed five hits in the performance as well.

Overall, Cameron now holds a 5.40 ERA in eight starts. He has 36 strikeouts in 41.2 innings of work as well.

Cameron displayed potential in his rookie season during the 2025 campaign, as he turned in a 2.99 ERA across 24 outings. The Royals still believe in his ceiling, and Saturday’s performance was a significant step in the right direction.

Kansas City needs the entire pitching rotation to be more consistent overall, however. The pitching has been up and down throughout the ’26 campaign. Perhaps Cameron’s quality start on Saturday will give the rotation a necessary boost.

The Royals’ offense was unable to find a rhythm on Saturday, as they scored only two runs. Kansas City had eight hits as well, but the team was unable to come through for the most part.

Jac Caglianone had two hits to lead the ball club. He added a home run as well. Vinnie Pasquantino also had a hit and an RBI in the contest.

As mentioned, Cameron performed well on the mound. Overall, Royals pitching limited the Cardinals to four runs scored. Bailey Falter followed Cameron and he surrendered only one run in two innings of work.

Kansas City has now dropped six consecutive games. They were seemingly getting back on track before this losing streak. The Royals feature legitimate potential, but consistency has been the concern.

The Cardinals now lead the series 2-0. Kansas City is hoping to avoid a series sweep while also ending the losing streak on Saturday against the Cardinals.

Stephen Kolek (1-0, 6.75 ERA) will get the start for Kansas City on Sunday as he hopes to lead the team to a crucial win. First pitch for the Royals and Cardinals clash in St. Louis is scheduled for 2:15 PM EST on Sunday afternoon.
