When a movie subtly references other movies without making it obvious, it counts as an easter egg that becomes a fun find for fans. However, when this is done without taking proper permission, it becomes an issue. Kartik Aaryan and Ananya Panday’s Tu Meri Main Tera Main Tera Tu Meri’s first teaser had a similar issue.
The first teaser for the film features a small, subtle part of Rajiv Rai’s song, “Saat Samundar”. Although it was a fun quip for fans, Rai found a problem in it that could push him to take legal actions.

Dharma Productions Did Not Ask Rajiv Rai Before Using Saat Samundar
Rajiv Rai talked to Mid-Day about how Tu Meri Main Tera Main Tera Tu Meri’s teaser that released last December. It featured Vishwatma’s “Saat Samundar,”something that Rai wasn’t aware of. Although Saregama has the rights to the songs, other movies cannot use it without his prior permission.
“Saat Samundar’s beats are not there in the latest teaser of Tu Meri… that was released. I’m not sure if it’s used in the movie. [Regardless] they can’t use the beats like this, especially when nobody asked my permission to use them. It’s a bad trend where [filmmakers] are using [old] songs and claiming that they are taking [the rights] from the music company. What has happened here is that Saregama thinks it owns the music of Vishwatma.”
He did admit that the latest teaser did not feature the beats to his song but if it is used in the movie, then that would cause a much bigger problem.
Why TMMTMTTM Can’t Use Saat Samundar
Rajiv Rai went on to elaborate as to how his songs can be used by the label for TV shows and stage performances, but the line gets drawn when other movies want to use them. As such, there is a need to take permission, document it legally and pay him if Tu Meri Main Tera Main Tera Tu Meri were to use it in the film.
“The label can use the songs [for TV shows and stage performances], but it cannot take the music from my film and put it in another movie. They must approach me for my permission, pay me for it, and everything needs to be documented legally.”
He continued, “I personally don’t like creating a legal situation as it’s a waste of time, energy, and money… If any content of our films is used by another film, we will go to court, before or after the release.”
Rai further stated that he doesn’t want to be forced to take legal action and has approached Karan Johar’s team for the same. He hopes things would be smooth instead of involving legal battles into the mix.
