Karla Mosley, who began her daytime television career in 2008 and became a fan favorite on Guiding Light and The Bold and the Beautiful, is now making television history as one of the lead stars of CBS’s new daytime drama Beyond the Gates. The actress recently opened up about why being a part of this groundbreaking series feels so special.
Speaking with JLJ Media’s Candice Mack on the red carpet at the 52nd Annual Daytime Emmy Awards, Mosley reflected on her experience brining the Dupree family to life on Beyond the Gates, which centers on a powerful Washington, D.C. based Black family navigating love, ambition, and legacy.
With a laugh, Mosley admitted, “You know the evolution of my pride could be a whole other episode, because obviously I was excited.”
Mosley then emphasized the show’s cultural importance, saying, “To have a show that centers around a Black family when we’ve been watching soaps for so long, and to get that kind of just facetime in this genre feels so special.”
Beyond the Gates features television royalty, with Tamara Tunie and Clifton Davis anchor the Duprees, as matriarch Anita and patriarch Vernon. Reflecting on her co-stars, Mosley added, “Then to meet all of the cast members and crew who are spectacular. Top-notch actors and top-notch people.”
Mosley also shared how much she’s enjoyed portraying Dani Dupree, one of the show’s central characters, “Now to be able to play this character and go on this journey and it just continues. It’s messy, but it’s also relatable,” she said.
Reflecting on viewers’ reactions, Mosley said she’s touched by the love fans have for Dani. “The thing that I love is how people love Dani, like truly love her,” she shared. “I keep going, ‘Okay, this is going to be the thing, people are going to hate Dani.” And they’re like, ‘No, we get it. Okay, we wish she would do a little better. Maybe she didn’t need to say that’, but she’s like the little sister who you just want her to get it together.”
Beyond the Gates airs new episodes weekdays on CBS and streams weeknights on Paramount+. Fans can catch up on the series from the very beginning on Paramount+ or on Pluto TV’s dedicated 24/7 fast channel.
