Kate Middleton is said to be begging Prince Harry to return to the UK without his wife on his next trip, with the hope he can start rebuilding his relationship with his brother, Prince William.
The Duke of Sussex and the Prince of Wales have been estranged for months and, despite Harry admitting he loves his family and misses them, there has been no sign of reconciliation as of yet.
Harry recently met his father, King Charles, when he visited the UK for the WellChild Awards in September, but there was no meeting with William.
However, his sister-in-law, the Princess of Wales, is said to be keen for Harry to reconcile with her husband, with a source claiming she is “trying to keep a bridge open” for the prince, who now lives in California with Meghan Markle and their two children, Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet.
According to the insider, Kate has “tried everything to get William to soften on Harry, and Meghan as well” but “there’s just no moving with him.”
Speaking to Heat World, the source claimed that as a practical solution, the mom-of-three is urging Harry to return to the UK by himself “as proof that he’s his own man,” so that he can “start rebuilding his reputation” in his brother’s eyes.
“Her hands are tied, so in the spirit of being practical, she’s urging Harry to come back without Meghan on his next trip, as proof that he’s his own man and not joined at the hip with his wife,” the source said.
“She believes it’s the only way he can start rebuilding his reputation in William’s eyes. Kate is trying to keep a bridge open for Harry before it’s too late but it does feel a little insurmountable. William’s anger and mistrust just runs so deep.”
The source added, “Kate wants a place for Harry, and his children, in the royal fold. She’d never be so cruel as to try and meddle in his marriage but she certainly doesn’t see the harm in him having some autonomy and being allowed to have a relationship with his homeland and his family.”
It comes after Harry, a former soldier who completed two tours on the frontlines in Afghanistan, was seen wearing a poppy on his suit jacket while attending Kris Jenner’s 70th birthday with Meghan this month.
Harry and Meghan moved to the US after stepping down as senior royals in January 2020 and now live in Montecito, California, with their kids.
Despite admitting he likes living in the US, the prince recently expressed that he misses certain aspects of his homeland – including shared memories with his estranged brother.
In a moving essay penned ahead of Remembrance Day, Harry voiced his pride in serving his country and highlighted the ease with which veterans can be overlooked “once the uniform comes off.”
Harry also spoke of the honor of serving alongside individuals from all across the UK.
He urged people to remember “not only the fallen, but the living” who bear the “weight of war,” and encouraged them to reach out to veterans, inviting them to a “join them for a cuppa…or a pint,” to listen to their stories and “remind them their service still matters.”
In a heartfelt essay titled The Bond, The Banter, The Bravery: What it means to be British, Harry expressed his enduring love for his homeland.
He wrote, “Though currently, I may live in the United States, Britain is, and always will be, the country I proudly served and fought for.
“The banter of the mess, the clubhouse, the pub, the stands – ridiculous as it sounds, these are the things that make us British. I make no apology for it. I love it.”
