In it, the author also mentioned how Philip shared the “golden rule” with the then-new family member, Catherine. The duke told her that she should not think that the attention she would receive as a royal was for her. If she believed that, she would “end up in trouble.”
“The attention is for your role, what you do, what you’re supporting. It isn’t for you as an individual,” Brandreth quoted him in the book. Further, he advised the Princess of Wales that she was not a “celebrity,” but represented the “Royal Family.”
According to Brandreth, Philip was like a mentor to the generation after him in the family. He was worried that fame might overwhelm new members, but was “relieved” after learning about Middleton. He found William’s wife a “level-headed girl.”
Agreeing to the author’s viewpoint, British broadcaster Helena Chard told Fox News Digital that the 43-year-old was “taught by the best.” Additionally, royal expert Hilary Fordwich also shared her thoughts with the outlet. She said, “[Philip] implored her to always focus on the role, that of dedication and duty, not on herself. That’s why she avoids seeking public attention for personal fame.”
