Actress Katie Holmes has spoken out after coming together with her Dawson’s Creek family and fans, all in honor of James Van Der Beek. The actor’s cancer battle led to the long-awaited and anticipated reunion on Sept. 22.
Sadly, Van Der Beek was unable to attend at the last minute due to illness, but he did make a surprise video appearance. Van Der Beek’s wife, Kimberly Van Der Beek, and kids showed up, stealing the show from the rest of the cast.
Katie Holmes Struggles To Find The Words After Dawson’s Creek Cast Reunites
Taking to Instagram, Holmes opened up about what the reunion meant to her, especially with Van Der Beek missing it. The actress shared a video of her with Joshua Jackson and Michelle Williams on stage with “James” written across it, a red heart emoji, and a prayer emoji.
“I will never find the words for what these three beautiful humans mean to me. For our shared journey. For our everlasting bond. James, Josh, Michelle… from April 1997—- I love you. James, you got this. We got you. To everyone who supported us from the beginning and who continue to support James and his beautiful family, we thank you. Thank you for last night. ❤️,” she wrote as the caption.
Holmes, Jackson, and Williams were joined by Mary Beth Peil,John Wesley Shipp,Mary-Margaret Humes, Nina Repeta,Kerr Smith,Meredith Monroe, and Busy Philipps at the Richard Rodgers Theater in New York for a special reading of the Dawson’s Creek pilot.
Lin-Manuel Miranda stepped in for Van Der Beek and played Dawson Leery.
In a separate Instagram Post, Holmes gave a special shout out to Williams for bringing the cast together and making the special night happen.

Dawson’s Creek Fans Gush Over ‘Incredible’ Night
The comments section of Holmes’ Instagram post was filled with fans gushing over the evening.
“This was the most incredible and generous thing you all came together to do for James and your fans. We love you and it was an honor to be there!!!” said one fan. A different fan stated, “This was such a beautiful thing to do for James. It is true when life gets tough your true friends shine through the darkness. ❤️❤️”
Another fan expressed, “I still can’t believe I got to be there. It was the most special night celebrating with other super fans. My dogs are named Pacey & Joey so it is safe to say that you all are always such a huge presence in my heart. This show shaped my entire youth. Thank you for doing this for all of us.
