Katie Holmes‘ no-makeup makeup took center stage at The Griffin Theater in New York City on Tuesday night, where she celebrated the premiere of “This World of Tomorrow” alongside actress Michelle Wilson. If not for the subtle marks of shimmery bronze shadow on her eyelids, her visage would’ve otherwise fit the makeup of the quintessential “clean girl” aesthetic.

Free from blush and bronzer, her complexion was even-toned, her base bare. Rather than her usual rosy red gloss and scarlet lipstick, Holmes dressed her lips with a light pink hue. Her eyelashes were lengthened with a thin layer of mascara, while the high points of her cheeks were accentuated using a pearly highlighter.
Holmes has been known to work with makeup artist Genevieve Herr, whose client list includes Julia Roberts and Amanda Seyfried. It is not certain, however, that Herr was the artist behind Holmes’ Tuesday night aesthetic. WWD has reached out for confirmation.
The actress opted for a no-makeup makeup look to honor the show premiere.

The “Batman Begins” star is among the list of celebrities who’ve proven to have a penchant for no-makeup makeup. Others who prefer the pared-back aesthetic include Brad Pitt’s girlfriend, Ines de Ramon, Hailey Bieber, Kendall Jenner and Emma Stone. Stone stepped out for the 16th annual Governors Awards on Sunday in Hollywood on Sunday with the faintest touch of blush, brown lip liner and clear gloss applied by artist Nina Park. Her auburn-tinged hair — styled by Mara Roszak, founder of Rōz — was slicked to the side and brushed away from her face.
While many like Stone, Jenner, Bieber, and of course, Holmes are still riding the “clean girl” wave, the trend is poised to fizzle out come 2026 amid a wider movement to bring fun and playful beauty back. With this, artists and experts predict the return of statement-making hair and makeup in the form of bold eye looks and out-of-the-box hairstyling.
