Katy Perry’s years-long legal battle over a $15 million Santa Barbara mansion is headed back to court this month, with the pop star seeking millions in damages from the family of a veteran.
The 40-year-old Teenage Dream singer purchased the home in 2020 through her business manager, Bernie Gudvi, from 85-year-old Carl Westcott, a disabled Army veteran with late-stage Huntington’s disease.
Days after signing, Westcott attempted to withdraw, arguing he was recovering from surgery, on pain medication, and not in a sound mental state when he agreed to the deal.
In December 2023, a judge ruled Perry was the rightful owner, saying Westcott “presented no persuasive evidence” that he could not sign the respective documents.
The court found he appeared “coherent, engaged, lucid, and rational” during the negotiations.
The title was transferred to Perry’s LLC, DDoveB, named for her daughter with actor Orlando Bloom, in May 2024.
Perry is now demanding $3.25 million in court for lost rental income from September 2020 to March 2024, plus $2.29 million for alleged repairs.
Her lawyers claim the property suffered nearly $1 million in flood damage in early 2024 and other structural issues, including a cracked foundation from a fallen tree.
“Westcott should not be able to profit from his own deficient construction and lack of maintenance while this litigation was pending,” Perry’s legal team argued in court filings.
Westcott’s family has pushed back, saying the claims are inflated.
They claim Perry already deposited $9 million of the purchase price into escrow and still owes $6 million pending the trial’s outcome.
“Perry’s game is clear,” their attorneys wrote.
Westcott’s son, Chart, accused Perry of exploiting his bedridden father, whose speech and health have reportedly declined.
“Katy could’ve walked away at any time with grace and humanity,” he told The celebrity.land.
“Instead, she has chosen to fight a dying man in court, all for money. OK, that’s who we’re dealing with here.”

He called her public face a “fake compassion” and “fake empathy,” adding, “She’s a greedy b—-h… She’s essentially a giant spoiled brat.”
Chart also objected to a recent ruling that Bloom will not be required to testify, though he is listed as a manager on the LLC. “He should have to testify… He’s already in it,” he said.
His desired outcome is blunt: “For the judge to tell her she gets no damages, to pound sand, and she never should’ve done this in the first place.”
