It feels like almost yesterday we were first learning about Katy Perry and Justin Trudeau’s relationship, and yet at this point they’ve been together almost a year and have passed quite a few milestones, from going public to meeting each other’s kids to holidays together. So, how are they planning to celebrate their first anniversary?
Well, according to Us Weekly, things are serious. And that plays into their plans for this anniversary and the future. “Things between Katy and Justin are very serious,” a source told the outlet. “After her split from Orlando [Bloom], Katy really wasn’t expecting to jump into another relationship anytime soon, but Justin completely caught her by surprise. He came into her life at the right time, and they have developed a really strong connection.”

The two have reportedly been taking steps towards “integrating their lives more and more,” including Perry’s 5-year-old daughter, Daisy, meeting Trudeau’s kids. He has 3 children with his ex-wife Sophie Grégoire, Xavier, 18, Ella-Grace, 17, and Hadrien, 12.
Perry and Trudeau went public with their relationship in July 2025, though there are no reports of when exactly their anniversary would be.
“Their relationship has deepened over the past several months, and they are about to celebrate their one-year anniversary,” the source shared. “They both feel it’s important to blend their families thoughtfully and at a comfortable pace.”
Both are, of course, very busy, but the sources also say Perry is “really happy right now” and Trudeau has “been making a real effort to be present despite their busy schedules.” And well, with the one-year anniversary getting closer, we can no longer say this is just a honeymoon period kind of thing.
“Katy loves that Justin laughs at her jokes and understands her quirky humor,” the source added. “Her friends think he’s a good match for her. The future is definitely something they’ve talked about, and they’re both committed to seeing where this goes.”
The former Canadian PM even reportedly just bought a two-story home in Montreal, which is reportedly “large enough for a blended family,” and “in a prestigious neighborhood where he used to live.”
For now, Perry’s home base is in California, and she and Trudeau are “still navigating a long-distance relationship,” but it reportedly “hasn’t been an issue” for either of them, with the source saying, “They’ve found a rhythm that works and make a point to see each other as often as possible.”
This all comes after Perry recently faced sexual assault allegations from actress Ruby Rose, who claimed in a series of posts on Threads that Perry assaulted her at an Australian nightclub when she was in her 20s.
How did Trudeau respond? He stood by Perry. “He doesn’t believe the accusations — not for a second,” one insider told Rob Shuter. “He thinks it’s unfair and deeply damaging.”
“This is a huge test,” the insider said. “And he’s choosing loyalty.”
And it seems like their relationship is as good as it has ever been, even after that.
