Katy Perry and Orlando Bloom have maintained a “mature” and “loving” connection despite their split, according to a body language expert.
The I Kissed a Girl singer, 41, and Lord of the Rings actor, 48, continue to coparent their daughter, Daisy, four, with the pair having even vacationed together after breaking up, alongside Orlando’s son, Flynn, 14.
Katy and Orlando broke up in June after a nine-year relationship, and had been engaged to be married. They met in January 2016 at the Golden Globes afterparty when they struck up a conversation over burgers.
“I met my boyfriend over In-N-Out. We were at the Golden Globes and we weren’t together,” Katy said during an episode of American Idol. “So I had my security guard grab 10 In-N-Outs and all of a sudden I see my boyfriend’s hand — he wasn’t even sitting at our table — he just swoops in and he grabs it and I was like, ‘Hey, that’s my burger!'”
However, nine years after that meet-cute, the pair are no longer together, with Katy dating former Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau.
Shortly after their split, Katy and Orlando vacationed together with Daisy and Flynn in July. Analyzing a photo the pair shared of their blended family on a yacht, Judi James, a body language expert, praised them for their co-parenting.
In the social media image, Katy is standing next to Orlando, smiling, as their daughter Daisy is on her dad’s shoulders, leaning on her mom. Flynn is also present, standing in front of his dad, but turning around to see what’s going on with his sister.
Speaking exclusively to Daily Express US about the body language between Katy and Orlando, Judi said, “There are several meaningful-looking signals in this chosen photo.
“Firstly, it has been taken at dusk, with the glow of the sun being perhaps a reminder of the ending of their relationship. And it has been shot on a boat, which lets us know this is not just a one-off, quickly composed pose for the cameras.
“They all went away together, and they clearly remained in close proximity for a period of time, which seems to endorse the fact that they can remain friendly for the children and place them as their priority.”
Judi also explained that Orlando is “very much in the center” of this family dynamic.
“He has one child on his shoulders, and his arm is around the other. It seems to show how determined he is to keep them together as a family, despite the relationship split between him and Katy,” Judi remarked.
Regarding the connection between the A-list exes, Judi calls Katy’s body language “playful,” telling Daily Express US, “Katy is shown leaning into the group and joining in the playful fun, but with no torso touch between herself and Orlando.
“Her link here is with her child, and their heads lean together, but as an intentional gesture, it suggests a very mature attitude to show bonding and a retained ability to be loving and playful as a parent/children unit.”
