Katy Perry has admitted it’s “scary to be vulnerable” as she opened up about releasing her emotional new heartbreak ballad Band-Aids, which appears to reflect on her split from Orlando Bloom.
The Firework singer, 41, ended her engagement to the Pirates of the Caribbean actor, 47, earlier this year.
The pair, who had been together on and off for nearly a decade, share a five-year-old daughter, Daisy Dove.
Since the breakup, Perry has moved on with former Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau, 53, after the two were spotted dining together in Los Angeles in July. However, last month, the couple confirmed their romance after they were photographed holding hands at an event in Paris.
Sharing behind-the-scenes snaps from her new music video on Instagram on Sunday, the pop star thanked fans for their support.
“Thank you for the love on bandaids (sic) …,” she wrote. “Tbh I struggled for months with the idea of putting this song out … even after all these years it can be scary to be vulnerable.”
She added: “But hopefully the lyrics of this song resonate with someone going through what I have been through and maybe they won’t feel so alone and will find the strength to keep going like I have.”
Fans flooded the comments section with messages of support. One wrote, “So proud of you katy, (sic) thank you for this beautiful song, im already obsessed, and never forget your katycats are always here for you.”
Another added, “Authenticity is everything! You are the definition of RESILIENCE! Love you KP,” while a third chimed in, “you are SO loved.”
In both the Bandaids track and its accompanying video, Perry seems to offer a glimpse into the end of her and Bloom’s long-term relationship.
“Hand to God, I promise I tried / There’s no stone left unturned,” the Grammy nominee sings. “It’s not what you did / It’s what you didn’t / You were there, but you weren’t.”
“Got so used to you letting me down / No use tryna send flowers now,” she continues. “Telling myself you’ll change, you don’t / Band-Aids over a broken heart.”
While Perry doesn’t name Bloom directly, fans have pointed out a touching moment near the end of the video where a daisy appears – seemingly a subtle nod to their daughter, Daisy Dove.
